Michelle Belton of Companion Home Care attends Wounded Warrior amputee softball game with home care clients

At Companion Home Care, we believe in helping our home care clients lead healthy, active lives both in their homes and in the community.

Recently Companion Home Care owner Michelle Belton attended the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Game at the Bedford Moose Lodge in Bedford, VA, about 30 miles from Roanoke, with home care clients Chris, Pam, and Adrian.

The Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team consists of men and women, both veterans and active duty soldiers, from all service branches, who have sustained injuries resulting in amputation. Through extensive rehabilitation, they have become competitive athletes, playing against teams across the country in competitive, celebrity, and exhibition games.

"Adrian, Pam, Chris, and I had a blast at the softball game. We encourage our caregivers to find fun things to do with their clients outside of the home as much as possible. The clients love it and so do the caregivers," said Belton, who founded Companion Home Care in Roanoke, VA in 2004 and is a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP).

The event helps the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) raise awareness and funds for their signature event, the WWAST Kids Camp, which empowers young boys and girls with amputations.
