Michelle Belton of Companion Home Care Completes Fundamentals of Gerontology Course from USC Davis School of Gerontology
The University of Southern California is home to the oldest and largest school of gerontology in the world—the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. The university has teamed up with the American Society on Aging to offer a five-week course on the Fundamentals of Gerontology.
During the course, USC Davis faculty guide students through the fundamental concepts of gerontology and provide practical and theoretical perspectives to help them gain a broader understanding of the field.
Michelle Belton, a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Certified Alzheimer Educator (CAEd) and the owner of Companion Home Care Inc of Roanoke, VA, recently completed the course.
“We discussed topics as diverse as the economic impact of dementia, new ideas and models of neighborhoods for the elderly, and how cultural differences affect the quality of care for a person who doesn’t speak English or isn’t from this country,” stated Belton.
Belton said she plans to share insights from the course with the Companion Home Care team of senior caregivers.
“Continuing education in the field of senior care is a critical part of our overall mission to provide the best possible care for our clients,” added Belton.
